Nighttime Adventures

Our pictures this week are called "Playtime" and "Bubblemouth." I'm sure you can figure out which is which. Oh, and notice Anna's slippers--yes, those are "Big Red Cars." Don't hate me: they were two bucks at the consignment shop.

So, to update you, Adam actually DID break his wrist last weekend while he was snowboarding. He thought he had just sprained it, but during church on Sunday, he decided that he should probably go to the emergency room and have it looked at. It turned out to be a hairline fracture right on that little ball on the outside of his wrist. He's wearing a big splint thing, so at least it's not in a cast, but it's still been kind of a long week--it makes it hard to do a lot of useful things: typing, holding the baby, opening jars, doing the dishes, cleaning the toilet, mopping the floors, taking out the garbage... hang on... hmmm.... I think there's something fishy going on.

As for other fun this week, we had a spot of bother on Tuesday night when Anna woke up at 10:00 PM and vomited all over her carpet and Maggie, her most beloved kitty toy. She'd been fussing in her room for a while before that, but she does that anyway sometimes, so we didn't think much of it. Usually Adam helps her, but I went in finally to see if a change would calm her down, and she was just more frantic. She got out of her bed, sat down on my lap and started screaming that "Maggie needs medicine!" I didn't realize what was going on until she started burping, but by then, it was too late to save Maggie or the carpet. So Mommy cleaned up Anna and Maggie while Daddy cleaned up the carpet. We got it all cleaned up, and Anna was back in bed and asleep by 10:45, so I'd say that was a pretty good first-throw-up experience (she's never been sick like that before--knock on wood). She didn't have a fever, and she felt better almost immediately. Looking back, we figured out that she'd had WAY too much milk right before bed (like, at least 20 oz.), so we'll be very careful from now on.

Anna's new words for the week are "realize," "actually," and "Anna use word to Gumby," which means "Mommy, look how funny I am--I'm talking to Gumby," or whatever other toy she's talking to. And yes, she does use those words correctly, or at least meaning-wise, although the grammar is usually lost on her. My favorite this week was during lunch one day when she started to dump food out of her spoon, then she righted it and said, "Ope, Anna realized." Adorable, isn't she? Yes, I think so, too.

Mariah is still practicing rolling. She's very good at it, except that sometimes she stills forgets how and gets frustrated trying to remember. She actually likes it so much that she gets annoyed if I hold her for too long. And that is perfectly fine with me.
That's pretty much it. Have a good week.

What a Surprise...

I was surprised this week when I got an email from Adam inviting me to join the "Life with Adam and Sarah" blog. Wouldn't he have been annoyed if I had decided I didn't want to join? But, being the selfless and caring wife that I am, I figured that I may as well contribute my two cents. And hey, it's a great chance to brag about my darling children. Just be aware that most of this stuff will be about them, and that is exactly appropriate since our lives do, in fact, revolve around them.

This is a picture from Christmas day at Tiffany and Mike's house. The other picture is Mariah in her blessing dress. Technically, it wasn't taken until a week after her blessing--I changed her out of her dress during sacrament meeting right after her blessing was over. I wouldn't allow the beautiful dress to be marred by baby mess.

Here are a few of my favorite moments of the week:

1) Anna has picked up a new favorite word: maybe. I think she's only just starting to realize what it means. The first time she said it, it was in response to a question, but it meant yes. Still this week, she only uses it with yes, but it's become a response in itself. You say, "Hey, Anna, do you want some applesauce?" and she says, "Yeah..." then pauses, and grins broadly as she adds, "maybe" in a really high-pitched voice. Then she laughs at her own cleverness, and I laugh because she's just so darn cute.

2) Mariah started rolling over this week. I'm trying not to mention to Anna that she didn't roll over until she was 6 months old while Mariah is doing it at just barely 3 months. She's been pushing up on her arms since about 3 days after she was born, so I knew it was coming early, but I'm still pretty proud. Last night she was lying on her tummy and getting frustrated because she couldn't remember how to get her arm out of the way, and in her anger, she pushed back and promptly popped over the other way. She just lay there, staring up at me. I knew if she could talk, she would say, "Whoa" reverentially, like a surfer dude.

3) Technically it was last week, but Adam bought me a sewing machine last Saturday. I say he bought it for me not because it was a surprise, but because it was his idea. Can you believe it? I mean, I've been talking sewing machines up for years--"Wow, if only I had a sewing machine, I could do this SO much cheaper," or "Do you know how much money Prom dresses cost?!?"--but I didn't really think it would work so soon. I suppose now I need to prove the truth of all the claims I made.

4) Adam went snowboarding today. Maybe that was his reward for the sewing machine. He'll have to tell you of any adventures while he was there, since he's only just on his way home now, but he's been excited about it since his friend suggested it on Thursday. They went up to the ski resort at Snoqualmie, and all I know so far is that he got up earlier to go snowboarding than he EVER does to go to work. And he hurt his wrist--I think it's like a Snowboarding Badge of Honor. Injuries received while participating in popular sports are "sic."

Other than these things, it's been a quiet week. We played a few minutes of basketball at the church on Thursday night, which Anna loved, and Adam went to a pointless HOA meeting on Wednesday. That's pretty much it. But, I'll try to post about once a week, so hopefully something more exciting will happen next week.

It had to start sometime

I' ve decided that Sarah and I should have a blog. So this is it. We have so many great things to tell about, especially dealing with our two children Anna and Mariah and all the mishaps and fun we have with our condo.

Sarah doesn't know this yet, but she will probably have to do most of the writing (She is the English major after all.)

I don't have any great pictures with me right now, so this 2 year old picture of Anna will have to do.
